Brown Bag Two Step Tango Mystery Kit - Happy Ferns Batiks

This kit is for the 2026 Two Step Tango Brown Bag Mystery Quilt. The mystery quilt finishes at approximately 60" x 60" as kitted. Your bag contains 6-1/2 yards of fabric! You will receive only the cutting instructions in your kit. The first clue for the mystery will be released on Saturday, March 21st. Clues will be mailed to all customers. While you're waiting for your printed copy of the clue to arrive in the mail, you'll have the option of watching a video of the clue in a private Facebook group that we organize for all of the mystery quilt participants. Instructions for joining this private Facebook group will be included with your kit. The clue instructional videos will be done by Karen Montgomery who is the designer of the mystery quilt pattern. Clues will be released and mailed every two weeks after that. There are five clues in the mystery.

The kit includes the fabric for the quilt top with enough extra fabric for a scrappy binding and possibly some scrappy pieced borders. The pattern will be delivered in the form of the clues mailed in March, April and May. Mailing of the clues is included with your purchase at no additional charge. Backing is not included and must be purchased separately. We suggest purchasing 4 yards of regular width fabric for backing or 2 yards of 108" wide quilt backing fabric.

Fabrics that would make good border and/or backing options for this quilt are shown in the Suggested Products area below.  Other border, binding and backing options may be available.  Call 218-844-5260 to inquire about other options or put a note on your order and we will follow up with you.  The amount of fabric needed for backing should be increased if you plan to add an optional border to your quilt.  We suggest you purchase 2.25-2.5 yards of fabric if you wish to add a border to your quilt. This allows for (4) 7.5" x LOF cuts for borders and (4) 2.5" x LOF cuts of binding. Purchase 3/4 yard of fabric if you would like a different fabric for binding. If you are using a border print fabric and plan to miter the corners of the outer border then we recommend you purchase 2.75-3 yards of border stripe fabric for the outer border.

Want to make it even bigger? Purchase two of the same Brown Bag and combine them into an 84" x 84" quilt. Be sure you bump up the amount of fabric you purchase for an optional border and backing if you are planning to double up on your kit.

The Two Step Tango quilt can be made using either rulers or by foundation paper piecing. One package of foundation papers is enough to make a mystery quilt. Purchase two sets of foundation paper if you are doubling up and combining two bags to make the 84" square quilt. If you prefer to use rulers, the following Creative Grids rulers are the recommended tools: Folded Corner Clipper, Crazier Eights Template Set, Triangle Squared and the Perfect Rectangle Ruler.
